SO 17  Five Thousand Dollar Banknote, New Orleans Canal & Banking Company, New Orleans, Louisiana, American Numismatic Association, 90th Anniversary Convention, July 28 -  August 2, 1981, New Orleans, Louisiana.  "The Canal Bank of the New Orleans Canal & Banking Company and its successors had one of the longest histories of any such organization.  It was chartered in December 1831 with a proviso that it construct a navigable canal from Rampart Street to Lake Pontchartrain." Card is certified on back by Robert P. Charles as senior vice president of the American Bank Note Company.  The Souvenir Card is mint and measures 10 1/2" x 8 1/2".
