Here's an pair of vintage GE & Sylvania 6L6G power amplifier tubes.
Both tubes are from early 1950's production and
were tested for transconductance (Gm), noise, gas,
and
shorts on my Dan Nelson calibrated TV-7/U tube tester using a digital meter that also measures plate current.
For a 6L6G to be considered "new", a TV-7/U reading of 38 (Gm=4700*) or higher is needed. * Data is from the RCA Receiving Tube Manual.
The TV-7/U minimum recommended value (65%) for the 6L6G is 25 (Gm=3125).
