Vintage Garlock 3/8" Compression Packing Steam Rod

Description

I picked this up at an estate barn sale.
I think the old-timer who owned it may have had it for steam engine equipment.
You can see from the box that it is old. I've tried to show the description on the box in 2 photos.
By my measure, the packing is 3/8" x 3/8"
My guess is that it is graphite over asbestos, but I'm not an expert on this.
You will notice a red colored circle at the center of the cross section. That is 1/8" diameter and it is a flexible rubber material.
There are several feet of the packing. I can't say exactly how much. But I can tell you it weighs 2-1/4 pounds.
