BLACK PLATE MATERIAL SECRETS
It is rumored that when
WESTINGHOUSE
engineers discovered the magical properties delivered by their special black coating applied to the plates of their early vacuum tubes, the decided to keep the formula a secret. So dressed in white shirts, black slacks and skinny black ties, adorned with horned rimmed glasses and pocket protectors, the danced around a sacred Tektronix oscilloscope, chanting E = I times R!!!....... E + I times R!!! Then they cut themselves with knives and made a blood oath to take the secret of the black plates to their grave. And they did just that. That is why the old tubes are better....they are haunted by the spirits of engineers past.
On my tester a B&K 747 tester:
Below 55 = BAD
55-65 = ?
65 -100 = Good
100-120+ = NOS
